Here are some idea's probably already tried but here they are.

This is what I am going to try next SCR in positive line instead of negative.

This is something I dreamed up maybe wont work.

i'll have to save and edit computer is restarting soon.

Won't let me edit, here's a relay based battery swapper I whipped up, it seems to work fine and is adjustable.

Drawing is very rough but I can't draw well my hands are failing me. I sometimes can't read my own drawings.

If anyone can see why the second drawing in my last post would not work please speak up or a different way i'm open, I want some options for when I take this back to the paddock.

I think that the strong pulses of the electric fence are easily picked up like a lot of other wave energy.

      Cheers all

        Second drawing

Hi Farmhand, I think I understand your drawing. I think you are getting energy from the antenna and charging the cap. When the cap reaches about 60 volts or so then the neon will fire and discharge the cap through the transformer. Then the current will be rectified by the bridge and charge the battery. The only problem I see is the cap just to the right of the bridge in parallel with the input to the bridge. This cap is going to take the current from the transformer and cut down on the voltage going to the bridge. If the cap is really small it won't have much effect except to filter out some rf which probably wouldn't get through the transformer anyway. I would leave out that cap and I think you will be ok. Hope this helps.

PS. After looking at your drawing some more I would leave out all the other circuitry after the bridge. Just hook you battery straight to the first bridge. All you are going to get are some pulses each time the neon fires and pulses charge the battery the best anyway so you don't need the transistor and other transformer.

Hi citfta, Thanks for your input, I was thinking that with a system of much greater potential the neon would be replaced by an adjustable spark gap and larger cap to allow for a lot higher than 60 volts.

So the idea i had was to step down the pulsed energy, rectify it to charge the cap and coil in the second part then trigger the transistor to discharge the coil and cap with force, the cap at the end past the bridge I thought might help to trigger the transistor, it would small in my imagination.
Then the third part is to gather the transformed energy and deliver it to the battery or it could be used in other ways, the idea is to have a series of tranformations to get the desired output. There are three stages joined only by magnetic coupling.

I just thought I would throw that out there, with little understanding i don't know if these things will work unless i try them or ask why not. These idea's seem to float through my head sometimes, I try to ignore the crazier ones.

          Cheers

            Plate shape and positioning

I don't know if it makes a big difference but I like to position the plate as a diamond shape (wire connected bottom corner) and tilted about 30 degree's from the vertical plane, similar to the side of a pyramid, and for me in the southern hemisphere I have it facing up towards the equator "North" this should give it maximum exposure to sun "cosmic energy" and Earth origin wave energy as well. as the waves pass through the plate the point of where the wave is intersecting the plate changes to a degree of the size of the wave which causes the charge to build. This is the principal i'm working by as I understand it. Am I close ? In one of the Tesla Patents I looked at, the plate is drawn with angled side's I think that means it should be angled to receive from all directions. A pyramid would be nearly perfect.

I will try that now with this 2 meter setup, thanks. Where I have the position set up in the paddock I can get an earth 30 meters below it down a steep hill.

I suppose I should use a cap straight from the aerial and ground to try to measure the max voltage I can get. That might be a bit nervy for me. I only have 400v caps so i'll series three to start I can measure that with DMM. I'm not going to do it while its raining though.

I need to insulate the pate better yet with edge protection. I also think mounting it by the bottom corner only to allow it to vibrate might be a good idea.

                Investigating

I am also investigating this topic. It seems to be very interesting and in theory quite scalable if somewhat erratic. You would of course have to do some kind of weather profile if you were going to correlate our results properly.

From what I can read the optimal climate condition for this is dry air and windy so it forces the ions against the aerial wire where they transfer their charge to the external rubber and the copper transfers the static charge down to the spark plug which jumps the gap when enough charge is built up.

A teflon spray on the outside of the wire should help the charge transfer process. I am still looking at the rest of the circuit.

                Found this

YouTube - Snow Static On Ham Radio Antenna

                and this

                YouTube - PL-259 Static Discharge

which confirms its possible just need the right conditions.

Hi Mark, It has been a while, it has been raining here almost every day for the last few weeks. I've been struggling to keep up with my regular work because of it.

I have another larger plate almost ready. I learned a bit from my last round of experiments. I wont be trying any more experiments with raised plates untill after the lightning season. Probably halfway through january is when I will go back to it.

I still haven't tried a wire aerial yet either. My first attempt will be to setup the simplest arrangement to get some function then go from there. Once i get some function happenning I will try a setup similar to this one-

if that doesn't work very well i'm sure I will come up with more idea's while i'm doing it.

I recently watched a video from lidmotor with an earth battery running a pulse motor, so it's not too much to expect to be able to get a transistor to pulse a coil for a radiant spike output using power from an aerial.

I'll post update's when I start, only a few weeks to go, it'll take me a while to clear the scrub where my earth cable is setup, I will tie up one of the goats there to clean the area up a bit soon.

The rain has been great it hasn't rained like this for a few years, I live on the top of a hill and the rain was so heavy it still flooded my bunkhouse, unbelievable.

                    Cheers

Good the hear that you are still planning to have a go when the weather is better, you have the rain, and here in the UK we have the snow, it has been so cold I have been unable to get on with my tinkering with the new wind turbine.
I have only been able to machine down parts for my larger turbine that is waiting to be assembled.
I still want to try the cable when I get time. I have tried treating some cable in my vacuum oven and it seams to have come out ok, I just need to try it out when I get time. just up too my eyes on the wind turbine, if the weather is better next week I hope to get it in a friends wind tunnell to get some data from it.
I will keep a lookout for any further post and hope that it works, as you said there are lots of other things to play with.

                      Cheers

                        Electricity from Air

Hi Farmhand please inform us how that circuit of yours behaved when you do it?
                        Thanks

Farmhand, what's the latest info on your experiments with this? Did you try again?

Also, what wire did you use, and what type of capacitor?
Was the wire coax cable, with only the inner copper wire and insulator? I can only get shielded coax here, so should I try and take the outer plastic and then shielded layer off? Or would normal copper wire even work, or does it need to have that special insulation that the coax has?

Hi all. I have done some experiments with antenna plates lately but not big experiments, I'e been messing about with Tesla coils and whatnot quite distracted. When I was experimenting outside I used double insulated solid core wire for the ground wire (electric fence underground cable), and just normal stranded 10 amp auto wire for the wire to the plate. A good ground is vital.

The plate should be clean and uninsulated but isolated from the ground entirely and as high as possible, the cap size should be fairly small to allow a high voltage to build quickly and compatible for high frequency so losses are minimal there.

The most difficult thing I found was to get the cap to discharge reliably and properly. I didn't have much luck with SCR's but I should try again because I know a lot more now than I did then.

I still don't have a large piece of aluminium but I am going to experiment today for a while just in small scale.

If you have coax just use the solid core for the wire but don't worry about removing the outer shield or braid. Normal wire can work too.

I'll post something if i get anything to work.

This concept is very interesting for sure, I just run out of time all the time. I still have the earth stake and wire over in the paddock but with everything that's happened this past year i haven't got back to it.

                            Cheers

Thanks for the update! I am going to try tomorrow too!
Your previous results are quite inspirational.

Hey btw did you ever see that news article about turning any metal into a "solar" panel by simply spraying a certain substance on?
