A Word On Permanent Magnetic Motors...

[codemaker92]

Thanks, I'll give it a try,
btw, your doing some great stuff! keep it up!

The lowes link is not working for me, can I have the dimensions/ material for the magnet #2/ south magnets?
also, I am still in highschool and am wondering if I could use this as a science fair project (Giving you credit for what you gave me of course)

[Matthew Jones]

Try this link.
http://www.lowes.com/pd_175283-37672-542000_0_?productId=3115765&Ntt=magnets&Ntk=i_prod ucts&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=magnets$y=0$x=0

They are 1/4" x 1/4" by 3/4 of an inch.Magnetized through the 1/4 inch Packaged by Hillman.

If you are near lowes you can find them in the hardware section. The #1's can be purchased there also. They are good quality for ceramic. I would suggest buying them there if at all possible.

You can PM me if you want, I'll give you my email.

Cheers
Matt

Hi Matthew Jones
Very concerned about your experiment, I plan to do a circular loop experiment, do you think of other possible?: magnet track leave gaps between the magnet and what is the difference between no-gap (annex pictures of Figure 1, Figure 2)?

Sorry, repeat, please delete.

[Matthew Jones]

No wont work that way.

Read this thread and look at the links

It might. Just loop the center magnets around your wheel. The wheel has to be big.
If the drive magnets are are 4 inch's in length the wheel will need to be 3 foot in diameter.

Magnet between gap

Hi Matthew Jones

Thanks you to reply fast, please tell me you to think: Between the appendix picture magnet arranges........ [Fig1]: Gapped, [Fig2]: No gap.

their difference, should use [Fig1]? [Fig2]?

No air gap.

Gurved yes .... Bud the other way

Hi Matt ! Hi Guys!
My first post here (reading mutch ..but No time to chat )
If your track is not flat bud curved (like inside a cylinder ) .. and the moving magnets are in a rotating disk ....I think it would work !!!!! I am shure it would work!
You dont even have do make the hole cyrcle a track only partial (maybe 60 degrees only).
Luck at the picture to get an idea ! (sorry for the Drawing it is the best i could draw that fast ) I hope you get the picture!!!
And i think this would be a nice Job for our GrandMaster-Machinist JETIJS !!
Hope that helps !!!!...........Greetings from Greece!!!!!

I tried but don't worked

Here is the PM motor design I spoke of in the last post. I have had this design for some time intending to build it, but have not had the time to do so.
Since I have not had the time to construct this motor, I give no guarantee whether it will work as designed or not. It is a simple design that theoretically should work, if the correct dimentions are achieved. I have no dimentions or tolerances on this design, so it will be somewhat experimental even though the design is pretty basic. If someone does build this design, I would appreciated it if they would post a response to whether it is a viable build or not. I was not going to open source this design until I built it, but I have been sitting on this and others too long without building them. I will release more in the near future as I get them changed into another format, as I can't post them as HMTL formats. Good Luck. Stealth

I tried this design using my own magnets what I had in my workshop but don't
worked.I tried in linear and circular mode .Was an failure...

Recently I become acquainted (not in person ,just on the internet)with a man that made an little prototype using this design and he told me worked for him....

I keep in touch with him ,receiving advices about this kind of motors and I trying to replicate again and make it work...

Anyway, from my experiments ,seems ,is not so easy to make it work .
If I will succeed to make it work, I will let you know...

I'm glad to see people talking about this subject. I think it is an extremely important subject. Permanent magnet motors may not be the best cheap clean energy source but it is the best way to prove that cheap clean energy is available.

I have confidence that the V-track design can work. I'm also interested in using shielding in a manner like this.

In response to what stealth last said, friction (among other resisting forces) is also a significant factor. A certain design may work, but appear to fail due to this.

I am wanting to build a model of my own, except I dont know what to make the track out of, or actually how. Otherwise I have plenty of magnets at my disposal, although they are small 1/2" dia disc shaped ones (fairly strong ones to boot). Does anyone know how well these will work.

lastly, found something really interesting i think everyone on this topic should know about. Go to CMR and just look around
I found that all of this would be possible (by which i mean easier) with programmable magnets (reference to site above).

btw im new

hi. you're doing a great job. does it works ?

[truesearch]

Interesting discussion in this section ~ extracting usable energy from magnets is my interest.

Attached is a diagram that I'd like your input on. The key being the use of a Halbach-Array to "pull" the magnet ends at the surface of the "wheel" toward the "array". As you know, a "halbach-array" would limit the "attraction" once the magnets passed underneath.

In my drawing, I hope that the combined attraction of magnets "B", "C", "D", "E", etc would be sufficient to overcome the "sticky-point" of "A" being the closest to the "array".

Does this make any sense? Any comments?

Doesn't work

At least, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The large ceramics are all N facing the center of the track, the small ceramics are all N facing away. The neos are N facing in, except for the end of the track which is S facing the center of the track.

Basically, there is a *lot* of resistance when trying to push the "driven" magnets into the "gate", until it reaches a certain point and then they move on their own. But they don't clear the "gate" and oscillate back and forth a few times until they settle in the configuration that you see in the pictures.

The magnets are as described in Matt's document (repeated here):

# 1 Big Drive maget (1 7/8" x 7/8" x 3/8")
Ceramic*Magnets*C8*1*7/8"X7/8"X3/8"*Hard*Ferrite*Magnets :: Ceramic...

# 2 South Mags (1/4" x 1/4" x 7/8")
Lowe's Home Improvement: Appliances, Tools, Hardware, Paint, Flooring

# 3 Accelerators / departure (1" x 1/2" x 1/8")
Industrial Neodymium Magnets||NdFeB||Magnetic Assemblies||Wind Solar Power

# 4 Driven magnets / Center magnets (1/2" x 1/2" x 1/8")
10*PC*Neodymium*Magnets*N45*0.5"x0.5"x0.125"*NdFeB *Rare*Earth...

There was no iron anywhere near the track when testing it, and I tried different orientations (N, S, E, W, etc) and they all produced the same result. I even tried pushing the magnets from the other side of the "gate" and it just locked up faster. And yes, I tried with the S side of the "driven" magnets going in first from both sides of the "gate" and no dice.
