A Word On Permanent Magnetic Motors...

Have done some experiments on the "magnetic track" idea.

Unfortunately, no luck!!

It very simple.
If you wanted to do it in a round fashion, You could use the same technique. Whether or not a closed loop would work I do not know, but worst case you could leave a whole with one magnet out and stager the wholes from side to side.
The catch is the magnets would have to be a different shape than most .

Here's some pics. They may not be accurate for construction purposes but give you and idea of where to go while CADDing the project.






Unfortunaltly they would have be cut or cast in such a shape. The best price I got, was $3500. For 160 magnets. You only need 120 to make a 20 diameter, but I figure a few extra.

I'm continually looking for a better deal.

Well I will chime in here. I did a prendev and it did not work. Crude at best so lots of variables. Still playing with the ideas tho.
What I wanted to point out to you is, the instant you close the loop of magnets, the forward force goes away. This is because it has a path to follow such as in a torrid. The path of least resistance. You will have to break it up into segments is the only way I see it flying. Your idea of 45 degree track is novel and will require some scrutiny! Keep looking, that is how you find answers to the questions that have none.

Ya well like I said I am not sure if the loop will get closed. and if not the gate will be easy to bypass because one side can be staggard from the other. So the drive magnet can pass through rather easily. It works in a straight line anyway.

The other thing is this is not new. I am trying to duplicate what Howard Johnson did. He didn't make the functionality so obvious, because he did not want the technoligy falling into the wrong hands.

All you have to do is read the secret world of magnets. Its loud and clear once you do. And its very simple, unlike most magnetic motor attempts.

Air Gap

Hi Matt,

I noticed that your configuration has no gaps between the magnets. Does having a gap alter the outcome? Also, when you place your moving mags. on the track at the start of the array, is there an opposing force that you are overcoming or is it all pull?

Ya you do not want air gaps between the magnets. If you have an air gap the magnets pole does not short out.

It does fight you when you start. Then it grabs and takes the magnets.

I am skeptical of this idea. The system is initially stable with no movement. For the system to be operate perpetually, it needs a positive feedback that magnifies the force applied to the same. How can we end up with a positive feedback with such a simple system?

(PS. Perhaps, we miss something important information here --- eg. the spinning velocity, etc, etc. )

It just so happens that a V-shaped magnet track based motor was featured recently on the PES wiki.

I've had a simpler design in mind recently that I'd test out, but other things keep getting in the way. And I should probably finish my bedini motor before moving on to other things.

If anyone can come up with a way to combine a Bedini with a permanent magnet motor to create a third, even more efficient motor, I know I'd love to hear it.

When you write a reply by clicking on the Reply icon the you can see an Additional Options windows under the first Submit Reply icon. Inside this Options window you can see Thread Subscription Notification Type: and may choose on different notification types of the thread.

I had a look at this machine - if you can call it that,I don't think it's much like what Matt has done!
